Abstract
Continuation of the study of saturation solubility of hydrogen chloride in alcohols at 0–50° has led to the assessment of the contribution to the solubility of each part of a molecule, according to its polar character and distance from the oxygen atom. Correlation of solubility with electron density on the oxygen atom is in excellent agreement with the correlation of the basic strength of alcohols, esters and ethers, and certain physical and chemical properties.
