Abstract
This marine dolichopodid fly frequents sandy beaches from Cape Cod, Mass., to Florida. The larvae and pupae herein described were found on Cape Cod, enclosed within fragile ovoid sand cocoons 12-20 mm. long, which were left stranded on beaches and sand bars by receding tides. No observations were made as to place or method of cocoon formation, or of habits of the larvae. Other dolichopodid larvae inhabit salt or fresh water, damp soil, decaying vegetation, etc.; most are known to be predaceous upon other insect larvae; and most form a similar cocoon of sand or other material.
