Abstract
Titanium(III) iodide has been allowed to react with a range of ligands containing oxygen and nitrogen donor atoms, and the complexes of the following stoicheiometry isolated and characterised: 2Til3,3bipy, Til3,2L (L = ethyleneglycol dimethyl ether, trimethylamine, α-picoline, and 1,10-phenanthroline), Til3,3L (L = pyridine, γ-picoline, tetrahydrofuran, and 1,4-dioxan), and Til3,4CH3CN. Structures have been assigned to the compounds on the basis of various physical measurements, including conductivities and infrared spectra. The significance of the electronic spectra are discussed, and Dq for l– estimated at 500–600 cm.–1 with respect to titanium(III).Keywords
