Abstract
Based on calculations from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III),1 it is estimated that 20 million adults in the United States have chronic kidney disease (CKD). In contrast, the estimated prevalence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in the US population is 344 000.2 This suggests that less than 2% of the CKD population progresses to renal replacement therapy (RRT).Keywords
