THE CARDIAC OUTPUT AT REST IN LAENNEC'S CIRRHOSIS 1

Abstract
Cardiac output determined by dye-injn. technique was elevated in 7 of 22 patients with a history of alcoholism and Laennec''s cirrhosis. High cardiac output was associated with large stroke volume, normal blood pressure, and low vascular resistance. High outputs were elevated out of proportion to oxygen consumption, i.e., in A-V oxygen difference was small. It is suggested that the site of increased flow is the periphery.
