Abstract
The specific capsular polysaccharide produced by S. pneumoniae type 20 is composed of D-glucose (3 parts), D-galactose (2 parts), 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucose (1 part), phosphate (1 part) and O-acetyl (.apprx. 2 parts). Methylation, periodate oxidation, optical rotation, NMR, partial and enzymic hydrolyses and chromatographic studies showed that the polysaccharide is a high MW polymer of partially O-acetylated hexasaccharide repeating units linked by monophosphate. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
