Abstract
Reaffirms the conclusion that granitization takes place by diffusion in the solid state (introduction of alkalis and removal of Fe and Mg), and discusses the hypothesis that not only granitization but also metamorphism, volcanism, and orogeny may be manifestations of chemical reactions taking place by long-distance diffusion between inner and outer layers of the earth's crust.
