Criticizing Evidence-Based Medicine

Abstract
Despite increasing influence within clinical medicine, what has been defined as "evidence-based medicine" is not a secure basis for treating individual patients. Many writers have pointed this out but their arguments are denied rather than refuted by the enthusiasts. Except in the simplest cases, decisions about treating individuals will always be difficult. Once all the necessary factors for decision are included, "evidence-based medicine" becomes no different from what most physicians recognize simply as sound, sensible medical practice.
