In vivo Synthesis of Ascorbic Acid by the Alloxan Diabetic Rat

Abstract
Alloxan diabetic rats excrete more ascorbic acid than do normal rats when on a diet of evaporated milk. Added chloretone causes similar amounts of ascorbic acid to be excreted by normal and alloxan diabetic rats. It appears that the action of insulin and the hexokinase reaction are not involved in the synthesis.
