Toxic-Shock Syndrome

To the Editor: In the December 18 issue, Davis et al.1 and Shands et al.2 set out strict criteria for the diagnosis of toxic-shock syndrome (TSS). We would like to draw the attention of your readers to two patients whom we have seen recently. They undoubtedly had the characteristic clinical picture, but neither was hypotensive, and one had a fever of less than 38.9°C.Patient 1, a 16-year-old girl, presented with pyrexia (37.5°C), confusion, bilateral purulent conjunctivitis, buccal hyperemia, and diffuse macular erythematous exanthem.
