Abstract
In 1978 we began to set up a correlation between the findings of the roentgenologic and manometric investigations of diseases of the esophagus in infants and children. Since that time, we have performed 360 esophagograms and 361 manometric investigations of the esophagus. With this combined procedure it is possible to determine the exact localization of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) in relation to the anatomical position of the esophageal hiatus. A correlation between the predominantly manometrically defined LES and the roentgenologically detectable esophageal hiatus results in a slightly modified concept of the pathology of this complicated region. Keywords
