Abstract
Fifty-five aromatic hydroxyl-compounds have been studied. The chemical shifts of the hydroxyl resonance in carbon tetrachloride and dimethyl sulphoxide at infinite dilution were measured. A linear correlation between the chemical shift of the hydroxyl resonance and the dissociation constant of the compound in aqueous solution exists. This correlation has been demonstrated to be good when dimethyl sulphoxide is used as the solvent. Keywords
