The Negative Binomial Model for Counts in Units of Varying Size

Abstract
Consider count data which arises from independent observations, but on units of varying size. The counts are assumed to follow a negative binomial distribution. Moment estimators for the parameters K and P are presented, but the procedure for estimating K involves an iterative technique. Prediction intervals for control charting purposes, as well as confidence intervals for the mean, are considered.
