Abstract
Gold was vapor deposited on fatigue specimens of aluminum previously fatigued in either vacuum or air. Differences in the nucleation of the gold on the aluminum substrate were observed that correlated with the known differences in fatigue surface damage, which have been reported in vacuum and air-fatigue experiments. These differences in nucleation were found to reflect differences in surface morphology, rather than the presence of the oxide layer. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
