Abstract
Bacteria, provisionally called Alcaligenes faecalis, oxidize lactose, maltose and the corresponding bionates aerobically to 3-ketoglycosides. Several properties of the pure compounds are described, as well as the arguments, leading to the proposed chemical formula.Keywords
