Relationship between blood alcohol concentration and self-reported drinking behavior.

Abstract
The relationship between blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at the time of arrest and self-reported alcohol consumption and alcohol-related impairment in 3837 men arrested in Philadelphia [Pennsylvania, USA] for driving while intoxicated is examined. Men with a BAC of 0.20% or more reported significantly more drinking and more impairment during the preceding month than did men with a BAC between 0.10 and 0.20%. Measurements of patients'' BAC during typical drinking episodes would be useful to professionals who identify and treat problem drinkers.
