Transmission of Lacrosse Virus (California Encephalitis Group) by the Mosquito Aedes Triseriatus1

Abstract
The mosquito ‘Aedes triseriatus’ proved highly efficient in transmitting the LaCrosse serotype of the California encephalitis group to suckling mice after ingesting virus from viremic golden hamsters in quantities from 1.0 to 3.7 (log10) TCID50 per 0.1 ml. This strengthens epidemiologic evidence that this mosquito is the major vector of this virus in the upper Mississippi Valley.
