Abstract
There have been reports on the possible role of fluoride on tooth size in man, but the results have been somewhat contradictory. Since a secular trend for increased tooth size in children has also been observed, it was considered that an examination of parents and children in a fluoride area would help to resolve this question. The island of Anglesey in the northwest of UK was a suitable area to test this hypothesis, since its water has been fluoridated since 1956, and, therefore, parents who did not have fluoride during their growth were examined along with their children, who had received fluoride at 1 ppm all their lives. The normal secular trend for larger teeth in offspring was somewhat masked, which provides evidence for an effect on tooth size by fluoride. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
