Abstract
There is a revolution going on in health care organization, payment mechanisms, and financing. Medicine has become the subject of articles in Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Hospitals and physician groups are advertising. Consultant groups sponsor conferences, seminars, and meetings on PROs, PPGs, IPAs, and DRGs. A new vocabulary and set of acronyms has entered the language of health care.As in all revolutions, it is a time of confusion. Old and well-established arrangements are being discarded.
