Elasto-Plastic Bending of Rectangular Plates

Abstract
A method is given to analyze the bending of rectangular plates loaded beyond the elastic limit. Plastic strains are treated as equivalent lateral loads and edge moments. The method can be applied to materials with arbitrary stress-strain characteristics under arbitrary sequence of loading conditions, including reversed and repeated loadings. A numerical example of calculating the stress distribution and deflection surface of a rectangular plate under uniform lateral load beyond elastic limit is given. The calculated plastic strain distribution and deflections are shown.
