Abstract
Two groups of 32 subjects each, selected on the basis of extreme scores made on a test of manifest anxiety, were conditioned for 60 trials and then given 40 "extinction" trials in which the CS-UCS interval was increased to one which has been shown to be non-conducive to human eyelid conditioning. The results indicated that there was a significant difference (< .05 level) in performance level both during conditioning and extinction" between anxious and non-anxious subjects. The findings also suggested that in these extreme groups on the anxiety scale women perform at a higher level than men. There was no indication of a difference between men and women in the extinction series. Keywords
