Abstract
Pulse radiolysis techniques have been used to obtain the rate constants for the reactions of e– aq and hydroxyl radicals with heparin, hyaluronic acid, sodium poly(ethylenesulphonate), sodium poly(styrenesulphonate), and sodium carboxymethylcellulose. Comparison of the hydroxyl rate constants of the polyanions with those of the related monomeric repeating units indicates that the nature of the polyanion in solution exerts an important influence on reactivity. With the exception of hyaluronic acid the reactions of e– aq with the polyanions are generally slow. Keywords
