Precise Determination of ${{sin}^{2} θ}_{W}$ from Measurements of the Differential Cross Sections for $ν {}_{μ}p \to ν {}_{μ}p$ and $\bar{ν} {}_{μ}p \to \bar{ν} {}_{μ}p$

Abstract

This paper describes measurements of the semileptonic weak-neutral-current reactions

ν {}_{μ}p \to ν {}_{μ}p

and

\bar{ν} {}_{μ}p \to \bar{ν} {}_{μ}p

which yield the absolute differential cross sections

\frac{d σ (ν {}_{μ}p)}{d Q^{2}}

and

\frac{d σ (\bar{ν} {}_{μ}p)}{d Q^{2}}

. The weak-neutral-current parameter,

{{sin}^{2} θ}_{W}

, is determined to be

{{sin}^{2} θ}_{W} = 0.220 \pm 0.016 (stat .) {}_{- 0.031}^{+ 0.023}{(syst .)}

.
