Abstract
Studies on the utilization of acetate-2-14C by Chlorella pyrenoidosa have shown that light brings about a preferential incorporation of acetate into the fatty acids of the cellular lipids. Approximately 50% of the labelled acetate-carbon added was found in the petroleumethersoluble fraction. The isotopepattern of glucose (from hydrolyzed starch) is in agreement with the function of the tricarboxylic acid-, glyoxylic acid-cycle respectively in Chlorella. The asymmetrical distribution of the labeled carbon (C 4, 5, 6 > C 1, 2, 3) in the glucose-molecule seems to indicate that there is a dilution of the dihydroxyacetone-moiety from a pool which may be fed by (trans) aldolase-reactions.Keywords
