Abstract
The quantum size effect for electrical conductivity in thin metal films is studied using the Kubo formalism. An expression for the electrical conductivity is obtained for the scattering of electrons by randomly distributed impurity centers represented by a screened Coulomb potential. It is shown that the electrical conductivity has an oscillatory dependence on the thickness. The period of oscillation calculated for thin aluminum and copper films is in good agreement with the results Sandomirskii obtained for semimetals. Keywords
