Abstract

Studies on the chromosome number and chromosome morphology of three species of Diptera are reported. The squash technique was used on larval “brains” and testes from pupae and newly emerged males. Both the horn fly, Haematobia irritans (L.), and the stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.), have a diploid number of 10 chromosomes, and the common cattle grub, Hypoderma lineatum (de Villers), has a diploid number of 12.
