Abstract
A description of the point-matching technique and of its application to the solution of plane elastic problems is presented. The technique is then used to evaluate the stress distribution in a number of plane elastic problems, and the accuracy of the point-matching technique is assessed by comparing the results obtained with those obtained by other methods. Finally, the technique is used to calculate the stress-concentration factors for a bar, with two symmetrically placed U-shaped notches, loaded in tension. Keywords
