MEASUREMENT OF THE HALF-LIVES OF AcC″, Cu66, Mg27, Ti51, Tl206, and V52

Abstract
With the exception of AcC″, which was collected by recoil, the radionuclides were produced by irradiating 'spec.-pure' metals or oxides with neutrons in the NRX reactor. The β-activities were measured by the rate of deflection of a quartz liber in an electroscope of recent design. The residual activities were carefully analyzed and eliminated from the main activities by subtraction. Half-lives were determined by the method of least squares. In the case of copper, the effect of the positrons and negatrons from Cu64 was suppressed with an aluminum absorber. The following values were found for the half-lives: AcC″, 4.79 ± 0.02; Cu66, 5.10 ± 0.02; Mg27, 9.45 ± 0.04; Ti51, 5.79 ± 0.03; Tl206, 4.19 ± 0.02; and V52, 3.76 ± 0.02 min. The half-life found for Cu66 from the measurements with the electroscope was confirmed in some measurements with a proportional counter and scale of 1000.
