Abstract
We derive for the first time second-order gradient corrections to the Thomas-Fermi kinetic-energy and entropy density functionals for a fermion system at finite temperature. Density variational calculations for a heated nucleus with a Skyrme interaction lead to excellent agreement with results of Hartree-Fock calculations. Keywords
