Abstract
This paper is offered as a supplement to Jenkins' paper, "Validity for What?" (see 20: 3975). After numerous basic problems have been solved, rating scales can reach a place of optimum value as criteria for prediction studies. We should not condemn and ignore ratings because of unreliability, but strive to perfect them and increase their reliability since they measure difficult and essential variables.
