Abstract
Serum levels of anaphylactic antibody, as measured by passive cutaneous anaphylaxis, were identical in male and female adult Wistar rats immunized with DNP-BGG [dinitrophenyl-bovine- [gamma] globulin] and Bordetella pertussis. Total serum antibody concentration, as assayed by precipitin reactions, was found to be higher in females than in males. Treatment of male rats with cortisone or diethylstilbestrol resulted in increased serum concentration of anaphylactic antibody. Treatment with estradiol dipropionate, desoxycorticosterone, or testosterone had no effect on the production of anaphylactic antibody in the rat. Keywords
