Abstract
Comparative titrations of the T strain of lymphomatosis were performed in birds of 6 ages, from 1 day to 10 weeks old, utilizing a cellular virus preparation. After a 5-week experimental period, the day-old group was found to be more susceptible than the older groups. Serum neutralization tests were performed upon preinoculation blood samples and blood samples obtained 4 weeks postinoculation from infected as well as contact control birds. In addition, blood samples were taken from contact control birds 8 and 12 weeks postinoculation. All preinoculation blood samples were free of T antibodies. Four weeks postinoculation, all survivors of the inoculated birds were positive for antibodies. Though no mortality or morbidity occurred in the contact control birds, antibodies to T virus were found in a low percentage of these birds within the 12-week experimental period, indicating a low-grade horizontal transmission. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
