Abstract
Sutton and Watson (1956) established the presence of a major fold—the Boyndie Syncline—in the Lower and Upper Dalradian rocks of N.E. Scodand. Examination of the coastal exposures between Portsoy and Macduff has added some new structural data to that collected by Sutton and Watson and it is suggested that the Boyndie syncline is a late structure that has been superimposed on a group of roughly east-west trending structures. The relation of the metamorphic events (“Barrovian” and “Buchan” types) to the fold history is briefly discussed and some comments are included on the status of the Banff Nappe proposed by H. H. Read. Keywords
