Abstract
The formation of quasi-Landau resonances in the Zeeman effect of absorption spectra across the ionisation threshold is shown to involve a previously unsuspected coupling of diverging and converging eigenmodes of electron propagation across magnetic field lines. The strength of this coupling will control the resonance intensities in analogous processes. Keywords
