Activation, control, and the spiral aftermovement.

Abstract
60 college students were selected on the basis of anxiety and impulsivity questionnaires. They were then tested for duration of the spiral aftermovement and resting cardiac rate. Longer aftermovements were found for high-anxious Ss than for low-anxious Ss; impulsive students showed shorter aftermovements than nonimpulsives. Aftermovement duration was significantly related to an interaction between heart rate and heart-rate variability. It was concluded that individual differences in the aftermovement are explained in part by different levels of activation and control, as these constructs are assessed through personality questionnaires and by cardio-vascular activity.
