Effects of an Exercise Program on Selected Flexibility Measurements of Senior Citizens

Abstract
Participation in exercises selected for their influence on flexibility resulted in a statistically significant (p<.05 level) improvement in measures of (a) ankle, and (b) hamstring and lower back flexibility in elderly. Subjects were volunteer residents of nursing homes or participants in a Golden Agers Club who exercised for 30 min. on a twice per week basis for approximately 7 mo. The influence of exercises on the aged on additional fitness parameters is needed. If fitness programs significantly influence physical independence of elderly, the implementation of such programs should receive high priority.
