Abstract
Computed tomography (CT) is apparently a reliable predictor of the benignancy of pulmonary nodules when high attenuation values can be demonstrated. The cause of increased attenuation is not proven. A woman with a pulmonary nodule, evaluated initially by CT and subsequently followed for 4 yr, developed central calcification by conventional tomography. Apparently, elevated CT attenuation values are due to microscopic calcification. Keywords
