Abstract
The experimental invasion of healthy human hair by various dermatophytes is described. In most cases the hyphae entered the hair shaft after raising the cells of the cuticle. A second type of invasion was by the formation of Vanbreuseghem's perforating organs. The microscopic appearance of the organism in the hairs was different from that seen in natural disease. Hairs of guinea pigs and rats were also invaded, the invasion starting from the root portion of the hairs. The successful experimental invasion of hair was thought to be related to the use of the pseudoparasitic phase of the dermatophytes. Keywords
