Abstract
Important changes have taken place in the care of patients with acute myocardial infarctions. The concept that ischemic myocardium can be reperfused by means of thrombolytic therapy or angioplasty has fundamentally changed our approach to such patients; emphasis is now placed on the rapid restoration of blood flow to the jeopardized area.The importance and urgency of reperfusion increase with the amount of myocardium at risk.
