Abstract
Two years ago there started a controversy about relativity, in the pages of Nature, between Professors Dingle and McCrea which has since reverberated around the globe. As is well-known, according to the Special Theory of Relativity a clock, which is moving relatively to the observer, should go more slowly than a stationary clock. If, therefore, a space ship carries a man at high speed out to the nearest star and back again, he should on his return find himself younger than his stay-at-home twin brother.
