Education for holistic care: a pilot programme in Finland

Abstract
A new educational system, polytechnics, has been introduced in Finland to provide a vocational route in higher education. This article discusses Oulu Polytechnic which has the most social and health oriented profile amongst Finnish polytechnics. Oulu Polytechnic is a multidisciplinary institution comprising health, social and business fields and has started to introduce shared studies across these traditionally separate educational routes. It has been agreed among the members of Oulu Polytechnic that the general mission is furthering human health and well-being: that task demands co-operation of all the fields involved.
