Abstract
To test the effect of feeding hydrogenated marine fat (HMF) with a high content of free fatty acids (ffa), 2 experiments involving 16 and 40 growing-finishing pigs between 25 and 100 kg of live weight were performed. Four diets, which varied with respect to type and amount of HMF, but which otherwise had the same content of nutrients per FU [fattening feed unit] were compared: diet no. 1, control without fat added; diet no. 2, inclusion of 4% HMF containing 8% ffa; diet no. 3, inclusion of 8% HMF containing 8% ffa; and diet no. 4, inclusion of 8% HMF containing less than 1% ffa. The growth and feed consumption of the animals as well as the quality of the carcass and of the fat showed no significant differences between the treatments. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
