Abstract
Approximately three quarters of patients with lung cancer will present with symptoms, and the majority of these have advanced stage tumors at the time of diagnosis. Early stage detection is infrequent and usually serendipitous. As this report makes clear, it also drastically improves prognosis as surgery is often curative for early-stage non-small cell carcinoma; 5 year survival following removal of Stage IA/B lung cancer is approximately 70% and for Stage IIA/B disease is in the range of 50%. This Recommendation is of an article referenced in an F1000Prime Report also written by David Midthun.
