Abstract
SUMMARY: Chemical studies were performed on a Gram-positive alkalophilic bacterium of uncertain taxonomic position. On the basis of the present and earlier studies it is suggested that the alkalophilic bacterium be classified in a new genus Exiguobacterium, as Exiguobacterium aurantiacum gen. nov., sp. nov.
