A Further Study on Winter Flounder Group Identification Off Massachusetts

Abstract
Dorsal and anal fin ray number variation was studied in 5,322 young‐of‐the‐year winter flounder, Pseudopleuronectes americanus (Walbaum), collected from the Cape Cod region during 1969–71. Data were analyzed by Duncanˈs multiple range tests, analysis of variance, and t‐tests. Flounder from separate estuaries did not constitute individual groups. The existence of a north‐of‐Cape‐Cod group and a south‐of‐Cape‐Cod group was confirmed; a Marthaˈs Vineyard group was identified.
