Abstract
Ellner, Paul D. (University of Vermont, Burlington) and Carolyn D. Bohan . Serology of the soluble antigens of Clostridium perfringens types A–F by agar-gel diffusion. J. Bacteriol. 83: 284–296. 1962.—A serological study by agar-gel diffusion of the soluble antigens of 39 strains of the Clostridium perfringens group has shown them to be extremely heterogeneous. Strain variation occurred within the six types, and common antigens shared among the six types were frequently observed. Attempts to produce type-specific sera by absorption were unsuccessful, due to incomplete removal of common antibodies.
