Abstract
The fundamental and higher-order modes of a waveguide are represented in the spatial optical phase space (x, y, px , py by means of the Wigner distribution function. The influence upon the mode phase space representation of the refractive index profile, the dimensions of the waveguide and the difference in the refractive indices between core and cladding is studied. Keywords
