Abstract
The doctor/patient relationship is sometimes an important social and therapeutic variable affecting the presentation and course of disease. It has cultural, interpersonal and pschological determinants, sometimes including neurotic determinants, in both the patient and the doctor. Similar factors may already be contributing to the disease process. The present review is concerned with the literature covering research into this effect, which, for this purpose, is broken down into sociological, communicative and personality/personal components. Keywords
