Polarisation discrimination in shaped beam applications

Abstract
In antenna test ranges the crosspolarisation of a shaped reflector antenna is measured utilising Ludwig's third definition. However, in practice crosspolarisation discrimination (XPD) does not depend on any arbitrary definition. The letter calculates the variation of XPD in a shaped beam and finds considerable difference between the XPD and that calculated using Ludwig's third definition.
