Abstract
The reddening in the direction of the peculiar star HD 101065 is evaluated using UBV observations of 60 nearby field stars and an increase of EB–V with distance modulus found. Using this, infrared measurements of Hyland et al. (1975), who neglected reddening and found a spectral type of F5–F6, are re-discussed. Their effective temperature of HD 101065 could be too low by as much as 1000 K, depending upon the star's distance. The strengths of Hα and Hβ and the general appearance of the star's spectrum are then examined and it is concluded that the effective temperature is nearer 7000 K.Keywords
